Southwest allows free flight cancellations. If you might cancel your flight, don't buy Early Bird Check In when you book.
Southwest Early Bird Check In is nonrefundable. Flyers can add Early Bird Check In later. This add-on can be added 36 hours before a flight.
Similar to not minding Southwest gate-checking your bag. If you're the last to board a full aircraft, your carry-on may not fit in the overhead bin.
